Why Eat Real Food Is the Gentle Metabolism Reset You Need

If you’ve been doing all the things you’re “supposed to do” — trying to eat better, keep moving, crush the gym, hold everything together — and yet you still feel tired, heavy, or somehow disconnected from your own energy, I want you to know this:

Your metabolism is not broken. It’s simply exhausted.

That simple shift in perspective changed how I approach my health and my body.

What I’ve Learned After 13 Years of Real Food

I’ve been living this way, real food, inspired by primal principles — since 2012.

Not as a temporary diet or some strict challenge, but as a quiet, sustainable way of life. For me, that mostly looks like focusing on meat, fish, eggs, healthy fats, plenty of vegetables, some fruit and nuts.  Simple food my body actually recognizes. I naturally eat lower in carbohydrates most of the time because it makes me feel my best, but I don’t follow any rigid rules. If I really want a piece of pizza or a good dessert with friends, I enjoy it without guilt. And of course, what would life be, without a piece of delicious chocolate – I love dipping a piece – preferably dark one – into my fresh, hot coffee.

Before that, I followed mainstream advice for years. I ate low-fat products, lots of grains, and processed foods while pushing myself hard. The result? Burnout, creeping weight gain, low energy, and a growing sense of disconnection. My health was slowly declining, and I felt more and more exhausted.

When burnout kicked my ass, I finally decided I couldn’t continue like that, everything shifted. I discovered the primal approach — real, unprocessed food combined with a holistic view of body, mind, and soul. It wasn’t a quick fix, but over time it became the foundation that helped me rebuild.

I’m so deeply passionate about this because I’ve lived the difference myself: steadier energy throughout the day, cravings that became much quieter, reach and maintain my ideal weight without struggle, excellent blood test results, and a much gentler relationship with my body. This isn’t theory for me — it’s my everyday reality.

This is not a diet. It’s a return to what feels true and supportive for our bodies. That’s exactly why I founded Born to Be Happy back in 2017 — because I wanted to share what had truly helped me come back to myself, not just with food, but with a kinder, slower, more holistic way of living.

How to Begin: Very Gently

You don’t need to change your whole life overnight. That was one of the biggest lessons for me.

Start with one meal today. Make it real. Keep it simple. Eggs fried in butter or ghee. Roasted vegetables with olive oil and sea salt. Smoked salmon with avocado.

Then simply pay attention two or three hours later. How do you feel? That quiet feedback from your body is where real change begins. No tracking, no perfection — just gentle listening.

Little by little, more real food on your plate naturally makes space for less of what creates so much confusion in your system. Over time, this creates space for more energy, clarity, and a sense of coming back home, home to yourself. You will finally remember and feel again, what a miracle your body is. And this feeling is priceless.

The picture above shows how a typical real food meal looks like on my plate, nothing fancy, quick & easy to cook and of course, most improtant, it is yummy: scrambled eggs in butter with ham, cheese & onions, some fresh berries, a tomato and goat cheese with bacon. All seasoned with my favorite spices and some fresh picked herbs from my garden.

Eating like this keeps me satiated, my blood sugar stable and my energy high for hours, before i will sense a calm feeling of hunger again. Not that kind of „hangry“ hunger, but a natural hunger signal from my body. When you nourish yourself like that, you will recognize your cravings will get much much quieter or vanish completely.

Why This Matters So Much to Me

I believe deeply that every person deserves to live a healthy, happy, and fulfilled life — one that feels right for them. Body, mind, and soul are connected – I love to call the three our dreamteam. When we neglect one, the others suffer too. That’s why a holistic approach has always been at the heart of Born to Be Happy.

We live in a world full of manipulation — from big food companies, media, and interests that don’t have our well-being at heart. That’s why I’m so committed to sharing honest, experience-based information that actually works.

Thirteen years in, my energy feels much steadier. I still have ordinary days with work and responsibilities, ups and downs, but I feel more at home in my body than ever before. The burnout feelings are gone, and life feels lighter and more joyful.

That kind of gentle strength is available to you too. It grows from small, consistent choices and the willingness to listen to your body again.

The Part Many Conversations Miss: Your Nervous System

You can eat the best foods in the world and still feel stuck if your nervous system is running on low-grade stress. For years I was caught in constant “doing more” mode. That chronic pushing kept my cortisol high, which affected my energy, sleep, hunger signals, and how my body held onto or released energy.

Real food alone isn’t a miracle cure, but it helps calm the system from a much deeper place. When you consistently give your body clear, natural signals instead of processed noise, it slowly starts to trust you again. Combined with protecting your sleep and learning to slow down in small, honest moments – even just noticing how you feel after a meal – many things begin to shift naturally.
